Brian Aikens walked along a sandy patch of an old state highway that had spent decades under Lake Casitas. A white line smudged with mud and shells still marked the middle of old Highway 150, lost to the man-made lake’s rising water in the late 1960s. But after four years of drought, Ventura County’s history has started to surface again.
Lake Casitas reached elevation 567.00’ (which is the elevation of the spillway) and water has begun trickling down the dam spillway. Diversion operations at the Robles Diversion Facility have fully ceased. Natural inflows into the lake may cause further spilling to occur and is a normal part of the operation of Casitas Dam.
Roughly 30 to 40% of the flow into the lake comes from the Robles diversion.
